Breaking Ground on a New Garage & Carport – Fort Valley Virginia, June 6
The crew and I are feeling the heat of summer! We have had some really hot days in the Shenandoah Valley. A few of the days have been over 90 degrees but we stay hydrated and start really early to beat the heat!
This week we are in Fort Valley, Virginia laying out a new garage. This is a massive garage that will be 40 feet by 50 feet. That is a 2000 square foot garage. It will have 3 bays, concrete poured walls, and in addition we built a carport for his existing garage.
The site for the garage was unleveled and on a bank. We brought in an engineer to make sure the plot would support the structure. We followed his specific instruction to assure a sound foundation for our garage.
We laid out the garage and dug the footers. After we completed the footers and placed on all the rebar we were ready for inspection. We had multiple drops so we had to build barriers to contain the concrete. We poured the concrete into the footers and placed all vertical rebar in proper positions. The rebar is used to strengthen the poured concrete walls to the footers.
This has been a fun project but we are not done. Next we will be pouring a concrete floor, laying 4 foot block walls, framing, setting roof trusses, shingles and siding. Stay tuned for the next blog from Fort Valley Virginia.
